In 2011 Sarah introduced Livestock back onto Long Common Farm with the idea to produce quality home reared meat for use with her family, friends and for use with Robyn@Longcommon Catering. This proved so popular that they have expanded their breeding programme.

There is a variety of breeds including Boris the Boar who is a Saddleback x Oxford Sandy and Black, the Sows - Sweet and Sour are Saddleback x Gloucester old spots and finally Mildred and Maude are Oxford Sandy and Blacks. They live in the woodland, which is their natural habitat, and are thoroughly pampered happy pigs! There is a plentiful supply of apples and vegetables from the garden to supplement their diet and they love foraging in the trees for acorns. They have been selected for their native breeds and the tender flavoursome meat they produce. They are looked after by Farm Manager Neil, his wife Terena and her brother Keith. We use an abattoir that is fully EC Approved and licenced, has accreditations from the Soil Association and EFSIS (European Food Standards Inspection Service) and is designed specifically to minimise stress to animals prior to slaughter.

Sheep
Our flock is mainly Wiltshire Horns, plus a few Wiltshire x breed ewes. In April 2012 our first lambs were born and all are thriving. We now have 25 ewes for breeding and plan to increase to around 35. Our Wiltshire Horn ram, Nelson, has done a great job this year, and in previous years we have loved having Bruno visiting our ewes (see him in the video below).
